Fast Facts
  • Australia is the oldest continent on earth making its wildlife the most unique of any on the planet
  • The Platypus and the Echidna are the only species of Monotremes on the planet, mammals that lay eggs
  • Kangaroos are the most recognisable Australian animal, with the Eastern Grey being the most common
  • Koalas aren't infact a bear, a common misconception. Their name means 'no water' which refers to the Koalas alleged ability to get all its moisture from gum leaves
  • Wombats are slow, solid, powerfully built marsupials with broad heads and short stumpy legs and can weigh up to 35kg
  • Emus are the world's second largest and second fastest bird, behind the Ostrich. Both are flightless

When we talk to international visitors about Australia one of the first questions they ask is, can they see kangaroos, koalas, emus, wombats and cockatoos in the wild?

The answer of course, is yes.

More than often we have to slow down to avoid kangaroos and wombats hopping and trotting across the highways!

You’ll see koalas quietly dozing in gum trees and be almost deafened by the screeching of flocks of cockatoos!
And depending on the time of the year we take in whale watching and penguins on parade.
